FASHION X AI : 2022 – 2023 INTERNATIONAL SALON
BACKGROUND
In this contemporary society, fashion still maintains its tremendous contribution to the economic growth of Hong Kong. Our fashion industry also remains in its global leading position through steadfast championing of creativity and innovation. With the development of technology, fashion practitioners and consumers will be able to enjoy fluid experiences enhanced by AI thus enabling products and services to speedily adapt to the evolving needs of the industry, society and creative communities.
ABOUT FASHION X AI: 2022 – 2023 INTERNATIONAL SALON
Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence in Design (AiDLab), jointly established by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the Royal College of Art (RCA), the programme comprised a series of 6 key events: Local Young Fashion Talent Mentorship, Fashion Show & Forum, International Symposium, Touring Exhibition, Workshops and MOOC (Massive Open Online Course).
The programme sets out to act as a platform to empower the fashion industry, academia, community, young talents and the public via knowledge exchange, active discourse, and cross-sector collaborations. The application of AI in the fashion industry allows practitioners and businesses to strengthen their commercial sustainability and longevity while maintaining a leading international position in creative innovation. The 18-month programme aims to nurture creative capital, future-proof the industry and promote Hong Kong as a leader in Fashion and AI.

LOCAL YOUNG FASHION TALENT MENTORSHIPJune - December 2022 8 winning entries were selected from over 200 entries at the open call by the international panel of judges. The young talents were mentored by 6 international and local designers, (BESFXXK, Fengyi Tan, INJURY, KAY KWOK, The World Is Your Oyster, Mountain Yam) to create original fashion designs using the AI-based Interactive Design Assistant for Fashion (AiDA). INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM17 February 2023 Hybrid Format Venue: The Mills Fabrica, Hong Kong This international symposium brought together world leading multi-disciplinary practitioners for active sharing and knowledge exchange to address the current and future roles of AI in fashion.

MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSE (MOOC)June 2023 – November 2023 Online Platform The MOOC comprised of 6 sessions covering the utilisation of AI in fashion design, quality control, retail, textiles, ergonomics and design thinking. The programme enable the public to gain fundamental knowledge on the applications of AI in fashion innovation. Participants will receive an electronic certificate upon completion of all online courses.

WORKSHOPS24 March 2023 , 31 March 2023 AI and Textiles for Fashion and Lifestyle 21 April 2023 , 28 April 2023 AI and Fashion Design 5 May 2023 , 12 May 2023 AI and Ergonomics Venue: AiDLab, Hong Kong The general public engaged and interacted with AI fashion practitioners of AiDLab. The workshops included demonstrations of the latest AI and fashion technologies with practice-based workshops.

FASHION SHOW & FORUM19 December 2022 7PM HKT Venue: M+ Museum, Hong Kong The fashion show showcased the collections which are developed with AI-based Interactive Design Assistant for Fashion (AiDA) by 6 international designers and 8 young talents. Featuring AiDA system with 6 fashion designers and 8 local young talent mentees. The forum showcased Prof Calvin Wong’s vision for AI in the fashion industry and discussion with designers about their experience with the AiDA system.

TOURING EXHIBITION13-26 February 2023 The Hall, The Mills Hong Kong 19-22 April 2023 Fashion InStyle @ Hall 3, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre 27 June - 10 July 2023 The Atrium Link, Hong Kong Science Park 6-22 September 2023 Fabrica X, London Touring exhibition showcased the latest Al and fashion technology. The exhibition was exhibited at The Mills (13-26 February 2023), Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (19-22 April 2023), Hong Kong Science Park (27 June 2023 - 8 July 2023) and Fabrica X, London (6-22 September 2023).
